Domrémy, France

On January 6, 1412, Joan of Arc — later known as La Pucelle d’Orléans (the Maid of Orléans) — is believed to have been born in the small village of Domrémy, in eastern France.
She would live only 19 years, yet her life would alter the course of French history. A peasant girl claiming divine guidance, Joan emerged during the darkest period of the Hundred Years’ War, when France stood on the brink of collapse.
What followed was one of the most extraordinary stories ever recorded.

—— WHY THIS MATTERS ——
Joan of Arc’s impact was both military and symbolic.
At just 17, she convinced French leaders to place her at the head of an army. Against overwhelming odds, she inspired troops, broke the Siege of Orléans in 1429, and helped pave the way for the coronation of Charles VII — a turning point in the war against English domination.
Captured the following year, Joan was tried for heresy and executed by burning at the stake. Yet history did not end there. Decades later, her conviction was overturned, and in 1920 she was canonized as a Roman Catholic saint.
Today, she stands as both a national hero of France and a timeless symbol of courage, faith, and resistance.
—— THE TAKEAWAY ——
Some lives are short, but immeasurably powerful.
Joan of Arc reminds us that conviction can outweigh rank, and that belief — whether spiritual, moral, or national — can move armies and change history. Her legacy endures because it speaks to humanity’s longing for purpose and justice in moments of despair.
At Masters of Trivia, with our MOT utility token, we transform stories like Joan’s into interactive knowledge, keeping the courage of the past alive for future generations.
